We want your jewelry to stay beautiful for years to come. Whether you chose sterling silver, one of our plated finishes, 18K gold, or unique gems, proper care is key. Explore our care guides below.
1. Taking Care of Your Silver Piece
Keeping your silver jewelry shiny is easier than you think! Our biggest tip is the "Last On, First Off" rule: put your pieces on after your beauty routine and take them off before swimming or hopping in the shower. Since air and humidity cause tarnish, we recommend storing your favorites in airtight bags when you aren't wearing them. For daily touch-ups, simply use the polishing cloth included in your box. When you need a deeper clean, a simple 5–10 minute soak in warm water and mild dish soap, followed by a gentle scrub with a soft brush, is all it takes—just be sure to dry your pieces thoroughly afterwards!
2. Taking Care of Your Plated Pieces
Our gold, rhodium, and ruthenium plated pieces require a gentle touch to maintain their finish. We recommend the "Last On, First Off" rule here too: avoid contact with water, lotions, and perfumes, as these can wear down the plating over time. Unlike solid silver, please do not use a polishing cloth or abrasive cleaners, as rubbing can strip the finish. Instead, for a refresh, a brief soak in warm water and mild dish soap is best. Gently clean with a soft cotton ball or your fingers, rinse, and pat dry thoroughly before storing. Since plating can naturally wear over time, we also offer plating touch-ups for a small fee after a few years to bring your piece back to life!
3. Taking Care of Your 18K Gold Pieces
18K gold is timeless and durable, making it perfect for everyday wear. We still love the "Last On, First Off" rule here to keep your pieces free from the build-up of lotions or perfumes which can make gold look dull. Since 18K gold is a naturally softer metal, we recommend storing your pieces individually to prevent them from scratching against other jewelry. For daily maintenance, the polishing cloth included in your box works wonders. When you need a deeper clean, a simple 5–10 minute soak in warm water and mild dish soap, followed by a gentle scrub with a soft brush, is all you need—just be sure to dry your pieces thoroughly to prevent water spots!
4. Taking Care of Your Opals & Moonstones
Opals and Moonstones are dreamy and unique, but they are also softer and more porous than other gems. Because of this delicacy, please be mindful not to bang them against hard surfaces, as they can easily crack or break upon impact. It is also important to note that Opals contain water; in very dry climates, they can dehydrate and crack over time. If you live in a particularly dry area, consider placing a small glass of water next to your piece to help keep them hydrated. When it comes to cleaning, we recommend skipping the long soak and ultrasonic cleaners entirely. Instead, simply mix a little warm water and mild dish soap, dip a soft cloth into the mixture, and gently wipe the stone clean. Be sure to wipe again with a plain damp cloth to remove any soap residue, then dry immediately.
